Each hotel visit takes a few hours, and I often hit up 4-5 properties in a day. It’s not about lounging by the pool with margaritas (though sometimes, I do get to indulge too). Starting Off Strong in Honolulu, Oahu
Hawaii, a land of mesmerizing beauty and endless activities, was the perfect escape for my recent 10-day trip. If you’re visiting Hawaii, I recommend spending at least a week (or longer) to fully immerse yourself in all the wonders this paradise has to offer.
If you’re considering island hopping, I recommend prioritizing two islands and staying for at least seven days. Maui, with its incredible beaches, is a great choice. Lanai and Kauai also offer beautiful experiences, from secluded beaches to natural wonders. If your trip is shorter, focus on exploring one or two of the above islands thoroughly, rather than trying to hit multiple destinations.
To get the trip started, I landed in Honolulu. It was midday, so my first day here was short. Honolulu is one of the biggest cities in Hawaii, and you’ll likely land here for the most affordable and diverse flights. I spent the afternoon strolling and shopping along the busy, touristy streets. Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki is a must for first-timers. I enjoyed delicious pork belly brussels for dinner and some amazing cocktails before hitting the beach for an evening walk.
Where to Stay in Honolulu
Right in the heart of Waikiki, The Laylow is perfect for a girls’ getaway. It’s close to the shopping district and just a block away from the beach. I walked to Waikiki Beach in just 5 minutes! The hotel has a trendy vibe with loud music and fun activities—definitely Instagram-worthy. The suites are cute with charming wallpaper, and while it’s not overly luxurious, it’s great for a fun and stylish stay.

What To Do In Honolulu
Go Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay: explore the vibrant marine life in this beautiful, protected bay.
Explore Waikiki Beach: spend a day relaxing on the famous Waikiki Beach, enjoying sun, sand, and surfing. The area is also bustling with shops, restaurants and entertainment.
Hike Diamond Head: this iconic volcanic crater offers a moderate hike with rewarding panoramic views of Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.
Visit Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial: for the history buffs out there, explore this historic site to learn about the events of Dec. 7, 1941.
Maui, The Island of Adventure and Relaxation
Next stop: Maui! As soon as I landed, I knew this place would be special. I checked into my gorgeous hotel, did an official site inspection, and hit up the pool before dinner with the team. And of course, we celebrated by popping a bottle of champagne 🍾.
During my time here exploring Maui, Hãna quickly became one of my favorite spots. This place looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale, with waterfalls and black sand beaches. We had lunch at Hãna Farms, munching on baked goods and homemade pizza, and even stopped at a cacao farm for some delicious handcrafted chocolate.
Maui is an outdoor lover’s paradise. I snorkeled, swam, and had beach adventures galore. The highlight? Swimming with actual sea turtles! For this, you hop on a classic wooden boat—think less yacht, more Hemingway novel. It was pure bliss.
With Hawaii also being a wellness lover's dream, it was easy to kick morning off with yoga and meditation, followed by a healthy breakfast. Picture this: stretching out with a view of the Pacific and breathing in fresh, tropical air. Maui mornings are pure magic!
If you’re not into adrenaline-pumping activities, it’s no problem! Maui has tons of other fun stuff to do. If you’re a creative soul, you have to try an art class at Welzie Studio. I had a blast letting my creative juices flow.
Also, one of the coolest experiences was stargazing with a NASA ambassador, with Star Wars music playing in the background. Imagine looking at the stars while “The Imperial March” plays softly. It was like being in a galaxy far, far away.
Maui is the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, swimming with turtles, or just soaking up the serene beauty, every moment on this island is a treasure.
Pro-Tip: When in Maui, you have to eat at Mama’s Fish House Restaurant (Paia, Maui). This place is a classic for a reason. Fresh fish, delicious food, great views, and kind hosts. It offers a true cultural Polynesian experience. The staff are so friendly you’ll want to come back again and again. And the shaved ice? To die for!

Kauai was the final island on my Hawaiian adventure, and it didn’t disappoint. On my first day, I enjoyed a delicious lunch with colleagues, indulged in a relaxing spa session, and prepared for a day of exploration ahead.
Highlights from Kauai include going out on a boat tour along the stunning Nã Pali Coast, soaking up the ocean’s serenity. The dramatic cliffs and pristine waters felt like something out of a movie.
I also attended an insightful presentation from the Tourism Board, before exploring on my own. With headphones in and an open mind, I wandered around, absorbing the sights and sounds of Kauai. It was the perfect way to end my trip—calm, beautiful, and utterly mesmerizing.

I went in June-July, and because of the heatwave in the USA, Hawaii was almost cooler than Virginia where I live. I could’ve worn a cardigan when I first landed in Honolulu—temps were in the 70s, not too hot or too cold.
